What is a cnc machine?

A CNC machine is an automated machine that is equipped with a computerized numerical control system. The system is capable of processing and translating programs containing instruction codes to actually start up the machine and process the part.

Types of CNC machine tools

CNC machine tools are special equipment, mainly including CNC lathes, CNC bending machines and other equipment.

CNC machine tools are generally composed of the following parts:

● Host: CNC machine tools include mechanical parts such as the bed, column, and spindle for cutting and processing. ● CNC device: The CNC device is the core component of the CNC machine tool, consisting of hardware and software. Its hardware includes a keyboard, PCB, display, etc., and the software completes the input of digital part programs, control functions, and execution of interpolation. ● Auxiliary devices: Including lubrication, chip removal, cooling, lighting and monitoring, etc., play a vital role in ensuring the productivity and quality of machine tools. ● Drive unit: The drive unit adopts an electric or electro-hydraulic servo system to execute the movement of the spindle and feed of the CNC machine tool, which is controlled by the spindle drive unit, spindle motor, feed motor and spindle motor under the control of the CNC unit. A drive unit is essential to a CNC machine tool as it can link multiple feeds to perform complex machining operations. ● Programming and other accessories: Programming devices can be used for tasks such as programming and parts storage and can be used external to the machine.

Compared with ordinary machine tools, CNC machine tools have the following characteristics:

● High precision and stable quality. ● The machine can realize multi-coordinate linkage and is suitable for processing parts with complex shapes. ● When it is necessary to change the processed parts, it is only necessary to adjust the CNC program, which can effectively shorten the production time. ● The CNC machine tool does not need to readjust the production line, and only needs to modify the program to complete the replacement of the workpiece, which is efficient and time-saving. The machine tool itself has excellent precision and rigidity, and can choose a better processing volume, and the productivity is greatly improved (usually 3-5 times that of traditional machine tools). ● By using automatic machine tools for multi-axis linkage multi-tool processing, high-efficiency and high-precision production processes can be achieved, while labor intensity can be effectively reduced, and production efficiency and quality can be improved. ● Higher technical requirements for the operator and maintenance personnel.
Ordinary CNC milling machines do not have tool magazines, and CNC milling machines with tool magazines are called machining centers. Compared with ordinary CNC milling machines, the advantages of machining centers are that they can avoid engine replacement, reduce repeated clamping and cumulative errors between different machines.

Machining center

A machining center is a highly automated CNC machine equipped with a tool changer that can complete a variety of different processing procedures on the same workpiece, thereby greatly improving production efficiency. Depending on the number of controlled axes, machining centers can be divided into boring/milling and turning categories with 3, 4, 5 or 7 axes.


The three-axis machine tool is a kind of equipment specially used to produce molds and other complex curved surface products, which is suitable for small-batch production.


4-axis (plus rotation) machining can achieve machining at any angle, effectively reducing errors, and making it the best choice for making discs, shafts, and artificial bones.
