How much do 3d prints cost?

For the manufacture of industrial parts, 3D printing is more flexible, convenient and cost-effective than traditional production methods. It can be seen from this that the price of 3D printing is relatively flexible and needs to be evaluated according to the actual situation. In addition, the price of 3D printing includes not only the cost of materials, but also various factors such as equipment and labor costs. With the continuous development of technology and market competition, the price of 3D printing will gradually decrease in the future.

Charging by the gram

The charging method of printing is generally calculated by the gram, and the price of different 3D printing materials is different, which is related to factors such as precision. Metal materials are generally more expensive than plastic materials. For example, the minimum price of SLA photosensitive resin material is 1.20 US dollars/gram, but the price of batch printing will be more favorable. For the same photosensitive resin, the price of SLA-2 (photosensitive resin 8000) is slightly higher than that of SLA-1 (photosensitive resin 14120).

Some people will also have questions, about the same 3D stereogram, and why different grams of material will be different. Here is an explanation, the gram is the volume multiplied by the density, although the volume is the same, the density of different materials is different, so the final gram will be different.

Special parts

The billing of special parts is not directly calculated by gram, which is divided into four situations.

1, Fully transparent pieces

For fully transparent parts, in order to achieve a better transparent effect, it needs to be polished in the later stage of the model. However, the complexity of the model will affect the difficulty of sanding, thus increasing labor costs. Therefore, when dealing with more complex models, we will consider combining offline manual processing to effectively save time and cost.

2, Volume pieces

The size of conventional 3D printers is fixed, so it is usually necessary to print multiple models at the same time. However, due to the large volume occupied by some models, other small models cannot be printed at the same time, resulting in low printing efficiency and increased costs.

3, Hollow parts

During the 3D printing process, in order to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the model, the hollow part needs to be supported to print correctly. Effective supports help reduce the risk of model deformation and ensure print quality. At the same time, due to the large volume of the hollow part, it needs to occupy more printer area, which increases the printing cost and time. Supports need to be removed manually after printing, which also increases labor costs.

4, Single piece less than 4g

For a large number of small-volume models, it is recommended to print multiple copies as a backup to avoid loss or damage to the machine. In addition, it should be noted that the post-processing work of models less than 4 grams is more time-consuming and labor costs are higher.

Starting Price

The starting price, also known as the start-up fee, is a fixed cost of 3D printing, which involves the wear and tear of the machine, labor costs, electricity costs, and so on. Similar to the starting price for other items, once the printing is running, the fixed costs have been incurred, hence the starting price.
